The west coast is synonymous with living an environmentally conscious, active and healthy lifestyle, so it’s no surprise that clean eating and the growing awareness of ultra-processed food has gained popularity in large coastal cities like Vancouver. Thankfully here in Whistler we’re also on the same page, so you never have to look very far to find nutritious and delicious food.

Healthy eating in Whistler can be especially difficult when you’re on vacation. So here’s our top 5 favourite spots that will help you keep on track as much (or as little) as you like:

1. The Green Moustache

Why we think you’ll love it: Organic + Local + Delicious + Nutritious. These are the priorities of Green Moustache founder and nutritionist, Nicolette Richer.  Their menu is simple yet mighty powerful and, once you’ve tried their juices, salads and soups, you might even say life-changing. Nicolette is serious about organic healthy and tasty food, and her food is always made with laughter and love.

Recommended dish: The Buddha Bowl (above). Chock-full of seasonal and local vegetables it’s creative, fun, simple and clean.

Feeling flexible: We also recommend their raw brownies, cakes and deserts.

2. Sachi Sushi

Why we think you’ll love it: Owner and Head chef Toshiyuki Kobayashi (Koba) has fuelled Whistler’s skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, moms, kids and visitors for 25 years. Koba’s dedication to only using the best and freshest ingredients has earned Sachi Sushi praise from the world-famous travel guide, Lonely Plant.

Recommended dishes: Assorted Sashimi – Chef’s choice of 7 kinds of seafood.  Ahi Tuna Tataki. Lightly seared and sliced Ahi served with Sachi sauce and ponzu sauce.

Feeling flexible: Rainbow Roll – 7 kinds of fish rolled outside of prawn tempura with spicy mayo.

3. La Cantina

Why we think you’ll love it: La Cantina opened due to public demand. A perfect example of a local business owner listening to his community. Whistler Village residents and wanted great tacos at a great price, and owner Pepe has certainly given us more than we expected for both quality and price!

Recommended dishes: Machu Picchu Salad – Mixed greens, quinoa, beets, cashews, avocado, ginger soya dressing.

Feeling flexible: Any of their delicious burritos and burrito bowls.

4. Creekbread

Why we think you’ll love it: At Creekbread the food is sacred. Their kitchen is open and honest and they pride themselves on using local and organic ingredients. As guest of Creekbread, you can watch your food being prepared and even see your pizza as it cooks in their huge wood-fired, hand-made clay oven.

Recommended dishes: The No Boundaries Salad – organic and local veggies – BC oven-roasted red bell peppers, organic red onions, Kalamata olives, sulfate-free organic sundried tomatoes, BC grown mushrooms, fresh rosemary, fresh pineapple, roasted potatoes or any veggies from their creekbreads

Feeling flexible: Pemberton Potato Pie – thinly sliced, oven roasted Pemberton potatoes, organic rosemary cream sauce, roasted whole garlic cloves, organic baby spinach, whole milk mozzarella, fontina and Asiago cheeses

Why we think you’ll love it: Casual and fairly priced with an impressive variety of delicious options.

Recommended dishes:  Vegan Bowl – quinoa, mixed beans, corne and edamame, with sesame Thai dressing and topped with maple candied nuts.

Feeling flexible: Traditional Pad Thai – Pad Thai with rice noodles, tofu, egg, carrot and topped with peanuts, shredded red cabbage, bean sprouts and fresh cilantro.
