whistler artwalk 2013

With over 80 artists in 45 venues, Whistler’s most expansive Art Exhibit, from Function Junction to Alpine, is a must see. The roaming ArtWalk Exhibit, presented by the Whistler Arts Council, transforms businesses and streets into makeshift art galleries.

This year, artists from the Sea to Sky corridor will be displayed for the months of July and August. Venues like banks, real-estate offices, cafes and hotel lobbies capture a lot of people from out of town, giving visitors a chance to see what Whistler’s talented artists are up to.

Taking part in this exhibit is as simple as picking up a map at participating venues, or by downloading the Digital Catalogue 2013. Just look for the red ArtWalk flags, and guide yourself through this intimate creative crusade, covering 40 arches of more than 40 temporary galleries. You’ll know you’re on the right track, when you come across brightly coloured Ladies in Red, cartoon-like characters, and the odd human-barn owl on stilts.

This summer, the streets will be speckled with tents and booths filled with artists painting, knitting, sculpting clay, playing music, firing glass, making balloon animals and painting faces. The ArtWalk is for all ages, and is sure to inspire visitors and locals alike. Take in the sights and sounds for as little or as long as you’d like, between the hours of 6:30 – 9:30 pm in Whistler Village.

This year Summit Lodge is participating and are really excited to showcase local artist, Allee Wells. Her work has been described as stunning, lovely, whimsical, playful, and thought provoking. Allee’s main practice involves drawing and mixed media, using materials such as pencil, pencil crayon, oil pastel, marker, pen, paint, collage papers and sparkles. Allee’s work can be found in the Summit Lodge lobby.

Summit Lodge is proud to support local artists, and we’d be more than happy to provide you with more information about the ArtWalk! For information in booking your stay and activities call Toll-free 1 (888) 913.8811.
