Crankworx Mountain Bike Festival: Physics, Gravity, Legends and Facts

“I am so pumped for Crankworx!” exclaimed my co-worker.

“What is Crankworx?” I asked. I then received what felt like the longest blank stare ever.

“Are you serious? Crankworx is the event of the summer! It is the world’s largest mountain bike festival!”

I quickly realized that I had better get my facts straight about 2013 Crankworx Whistler. If you’re in the same boat, not really knowing what Crankworx is all about, or you simply need more information about this year’s festival, then read on!

What is Crankworx?

From August 9 to 18, 2013, bikes and their owners will take over Whistler during the ultimate Freeride Mountain Bike Festival to compete in downhill, enduro, slopestyle, trails and more. And this event isn’t just for the pros. Riders of all skill-level get the unique opportunity to compete alongside some of the world’s top professional athletes. So long as you have two wheels, bike gear, and no fear, Crankworx promises to be an awesome time!

Where can I watch the events from?

Events in the Boneyard or Whistler Mountain Bike Park, are best viewed from Skiers Plaza at the base of Whistler Mountain in Whistler Village. There you can watch all events on the jumbotrons, see live timing of the races and listen to the announcers.

Is there anything else other than mountain bike events taking place?

It wouldn’t be a festival without free music concerts, photo and video demos and a bumping nightlife. The Whistler Olympic Plaza will showcase the GoPro Dirt Diaries video contest on August 13 and the Deep Summer Photo Challenge on August 14. Don’t miss the Bud Light Crankworx Concert Series held at the Olympic Plaza.

Is Whistler Mountain Bike Park open to public during Crankworx?

Yes, the bike park is open to public every day during Crankworx, however, certain runs will be closed at times to allow for race training and the actual race runs.
